Filled with practical instruction, this book will change the way readers think about home landscaping--and it will never again be boring!

Its a great book to look through for ideas, though the book itself seems to be geared more towards larger gardens.

Gardening for Pleasure: A Practical Guide to the Essential Skills - Ursula Buchan

Synopsis:
Ursula Buchan's enjoyment of gardening is infectious. Insisting that gardens and plants are meant to be enjoyed, she explains which gardening tasks should be undertaken throughout the year and suggests the best ways to do them. She clarifies basic techniques such as planting, watering, pruning, and propagation, and explains which chores are unnecessary or impractical. Her experiences in creating new gardens and revamping existing ones are instructive, as are her tips on what to look for when choosing and buying plants. She also discusses the different planting and cultivation needs of various plant groups, from annuals, perennials, and roses to trees, shrubs, vegetables, fruit, and herbs, concluding with information on their care and maintenance.

What I think:
This book was a pleasure to read, mainly because of the Ms. Buchan's enthusiasm for gardening. There is a lot of good advice - especially good is when she tells you what you don't need to do! Great pictures too. I think that this is a good book to read even if you don't have a garden - you might learn something anyway!
