Located at the heart of the Madras city. One of the major landmark of Tamil Nadu architecture It is a beautiful architechtural master piece built in Indo sarcenic style. The main palace is built in a spacious court yard using massive grey granite. It is a three storied building dominated by spacious lawns which soothes the eye in the misty morning hours.The beautiful paintings of Dasara festival, majestic Durbar, Luxurious Carved furnitures are worth seeing. The palace is illuminated during Dasara and every sundays at 6.30pm or 7.00 pm depending on the seasons.
This is the Madras Stock Exchange new building and is really a unique building. Never before ever in the history of India such a massive plan was involved to facilitate the stock exhange bussiness.Now NRI's coming back to India and now its a solid infrastructure which has been laid to encourage them to invest in India and be a part of the strong Economy. The building of such size and expanse, enclosing a dome of Gol Gumbaz proportions, with Rajastani jharokes providing a contrasting and very becoming touch in the elevation. The aureole gables which punctuate the outline of the top level evoke the sun symbol of the Chaitra Vihara, while the window embellishments and stucco motifs which surround the inner quadrangle are - Saracenic. Today, Madras Stock Exchange is regarded as an addition not only to the architecture of Madras but that of the country. It is an impressive building dominating the landscape though it looks more like a palace than secretariat. However, its resemblance to palace might have been deliberate as a palace was associated in people's minds with power and majesty.
